About Us
Yuboota was founded with a simple but powerful purpose: to say thank you.
For generations, Oromo elders have devoted their lives to advancing education, preserving culture, strengthening communities, promoting leadership, and passing down values that continue to guide future generations. Through their dedication, wisdom, and sacrifice, they have helped shape the identity, resilience, and progress of the Oromo people.
Many of these contributions were made quietly and selflessly, often without public recognition. Countless individuals invested their time, knowledge, and resources to uplift others, mentor young people, protect cultural traditions, and serve their communities. While their impact is felt across generations, their stories are not always documented or celebrated. Yuboota was created to ensure that these remarkable individuals receive the recognition they deserve.
The word “Yuboota” reflects respect for elders and acknowledges the invaluable role they play in preserving history, sharing wisdom, and strengthening community bonds. The organization believes that honoring elders is not only a gesture of gratitude but also a responsibility to preserve their legacy for future generations.
Since its founding, Yuboota has organized annual recognition programs that celebrate Oromo elders and distinguished community contributors whose lives exemplify service, leadership, integrity, and dedication. Over the past three years, the organization has proudly honored dozens of individuals from diverse backgrounds and professions, highlighting their achievements and documenting their stories so that future generations can learn from their experiences.
Yuboota is more than an awards program—it is a movement dedicated to preserving history, promoting gratitude, and strengthening the connection between generations. By recognizing those who came before us, we inspire today’s youth to value service, leadership, education, and community engagement.
As we prepare for the 2026 Summer Recognition Program, Yuboota remains committed to expanding its mission, reaching more communities, and continuing to celebrate the men and women whose contributions have left a lasting impact on the Oromo people. Through recognition, storytelling, and community engagement, we strive to ensure that their legacy lives on for generations to come.
Our mission is simple: Honor the past, celebrate the present, and inspire the future.
